Plaza de Gabriel Miró, often called the “Plaza de Correos” by locals, is a great spot right in the centre of Alicante.
It earned its nickname from the striking modernist building that once housed the city’s main post office and now serves as the headquarters of the Generalitat Valenciana.
In the centre of the square stands the Fuente de la Aguadora, a fountain unveiled in 1918 to mark the arrival of drinking water to Alicante. The sculpture, by artist Vicente Bañuls, was inspired by Susana Llaneras Rico, a young woman from Alicante who became the model for this well-known piece.
