If you are looking for a fairly easy walk or planning an outing with children, this short riverside route is a great option. The Clariano Route follows part of the Clariano River as it passes through Ontinyent.

The Clariano River begins in Bocairent and runs for around 40 km before flowing into the Albaida River. Along its course, it passes through Ontinyent, where it forms the well-known Pou Clar area.

The Clariano Route follows one of the river sections within the municipality. It is a short and simple walk that takes around 30 minutes, making it suitable for visitors of all ages.

Where the route starts

The walk normally starts near the historic centre of Ontinyent, close to the riverbank area beside the old town. One of the easiest access points is near the Mitja Calça Bridge, which links the town with the riverside path.

From here, a clearly marked pedestrian path follows the Clariano River downstream. The route is mostly flat and shaded in many sections.

Parking can usually be found in nearby streets around the town centre, and from there it is just a short walk down to the riverside path.

Nature along the river

As you walk beside the river, you can enjoy a variety of plant life typical of riverside landscapes. The area is home to rushes, water lilies and poplar trees.

Several natural springs also appear along the route. Among them are Borreguet, La Teula and La Canaleta, all known for their fresh, clear water.

The historic Mitja Calça Bridge

At one end of the path stands the Mitja Calça Bridge, an important historical landmark in Ontinyent.

Until 1950, this bridge served as the main entrance to the town. It was later replaced by the nearby Sant Blai Bridge, which now carries most of the traffic.

Near the bridge, two information panels explain how the river once powered local mills and textile factories that were built along the riverbed.

Traces of the region’s industrial past

The nearby Barranc de la Fos route, which once formed the old road between Bocairent and Ontinyent, also follows the Clariano River. Along this historic path, visitors can still see the remains of some of the mills and industrial buildings that once relied on the river’s energy.
