Registration for the 33rd Annual Paella Competition opens on Monday 17 November as part of Torrevieja’s Patron Saint Festivities.

Are you a bit handy in the kitchen? Do you fancy showing off your paella skills?

You can sign up until 26 November. Spots in Antonio Soria Park will be given out on a first come first served basis through the Town Hall online portal.

Anyone registered as a resident can join in. Up to eighty groups may enter and each group can prepare only one paella.

Applications will be handled in the order they arrive. You will be asked for the basic details, such as the group representative, the group or club name, address and contact number. The form will be available both online and in person. Minors will also need the signed permission form.

All ingredients for the paellas will be provided by the Department of Festivals, up to one kilogram of rice per group. You will need to bring your own pans, utensils and containers. Your paella pan and gasket must have the correct certification and be in date.

Participants should arrive at the market area from 07:00. The competition starts at 13:00. The jury will taste and judge the paellas between 14:00 and 15:00. Paellas must be handed over during this time. Anything brought outside the slot will not be judged.

The organisers will appoint the jury. Six prizes will be given.

Presentation, flavour, rice texture and cooking point will each be scored from one to four.

There is one small change this year. If a participant is under eighteen, a parent or legal guardian will need to fill in and sign the permission form.
