Nativity scenes have become one of the most anticipated Christmas traditions on the Costa Blanca.

Every year they attract thousands of visitors who come to enjoy a mix of art, history and a good dose of festive magic. For 2025, here are some of the most eye catching and diverse belenes across the region, from record breaking displays to traditional scenes set in remarkable locations.

Guinness World Record Nativity Scene

Alicante’s Monumental Nativity Scene, officially recognised in the Guinness World Records as the largest in the world, is one of the city’s star attractions during the festive season. You will find it in the Town Hall, where giant sculptures of the Holy Family tower over visitors. It is a dramatic sight and quite hard to miss, even if you tried.

The size alone makes it a must see, but the attention to detail, lighting and decorations turn the square into a magical open air Christmas setting. It is one of the best spots in Alicante for festive photos and a popular meeting place for families throughout December.

Elche’s Living Nativity Scene

Elche brings its Nativity scene to life at the Hort del Xocolater. The Living Nativity returns with traditional scenes, period costumes and a festive atmosphere.

The opening is on Thursday 25 December from 11:30 to 13:00. Public sessions are:

  • Saturday 27 December from 11:00 to 14:00 and from 18:00 to 21:00
  • Sunday 28 December from 11:00 to 14:00 and from 18:00 to 21:00
  • Monday 29 December from 11:00 to 14:00 and from 18:00 to 21:00

It is a lovely way to step back in time and enjoy Christmas in a unique setting.

Alcoy and the tradition of Tirisiti

The Tirisiti Nativity Scene in Alcoy is far more than a traditional display. It is a theatrical performance with more than one hundred years of history. Declared an Item of Intangible Cultural Interest, the show uses puppets, humour and local stories to bring the Christmas tale to life.

It is a cultural icon in Alcoy and a favourite among families. No Nativity route in Alicante feels complete without a visit to Tirisiti. Expect plenty of charm, a lively crowd and a good laugh or two.

Nativity scene in a natural setting

The town famous for turrón also hosts one of the region’s most impressive Nativity displays. The Belemet of Jijona can be visited until 2 February, which coincides nicely with Candlemas Day. The scene is known for its beauty and natural surroundings and is set at real size in the Barranc de la Font at the foot of the castle.

Classic scenes of the Nativity appear alongside traditional crafts, rural life and landscapes typical of Jijona. It is a beautiful blend of nature and Christmas tradition, perfect for a family outing.

“The Messiah is born to you”

The annual Nativity exhibition at the Alicante Provincial Palace is another important date in the festive calendar. This year’s edition, titled “The Messiah is born to you”, offers an impressive collection of panoramic Nativity scenes and detailed displays based on the Gospel stories.

The exhibition runs until 6 January and blends craftsmanship, history and devotion. Visitors can enjoy a carefully designed setting with backgrounds, curtains and decorative elements. It is an excellent plan for families and anyone who enjoys festive art.
