Following the launch of the Alicante–Athens route run by EasyJet, the Costa Blanca Tourism Board has stepped up its international strategy.
The Board took part in a Turespaña event in Athens aimed at Greek tour operators, travel agents and specialist media.
The new service carried more than 11,000 passengers this summer alone.
Tourism Board director José Mancebo showcased the wide range of attractions on offer across the province. He also introduced the new Wow campaign, describing Costa Blanca as “one of the Mediterranean’s most varied and appealing destinations, offering culture, nature, leisure and gastronomy throughout the year.”
Alicante-Athens route: Reaching new markets
Mancebo said the Alicante-Athens route is “a valuable chance to broaden our reach and attract more visitors from emerging markets like Greece.” He added that keeping the connection in place until 2026 is key to building a lasting Mediterranean link between the two cities.
Strong industry turnout
The event took place at the Spanish Embassy in Athens and brought together more than 70 media outlets, including Naftemporiki, Ethnos.gr, Fortune Greece, Greek Travel Pages and TravelDailyNews. Organisations such as Visit Greece, SETE, INSETE, the GNTO and Athens International Airport were also represented.
Leading travel companies including Mazi Travel, Ask2Travel, Signature Travel and Iberica Travel showed strong interest in Costa Blanca’s diverse tourism products.
Spotlight on Alicante, Elche and Benidorm
The promotion highlighted key milestones in the region: Alicante as Spain’s Gastronomy Capital 2025, Elche with its Jubilee Year “Heaven on Earth”, and Benidorm’s title as European Green Capital.
This was the Tourism Board’s first international action since the launch of the Alicante–Athens route. Mancebo stressed that the priority now is to work closely with both the airline and the wider tourism sector to secure the route for next year and boost cultural, holiday and business travel between the two destinations.
