Maritime traffic in Alicante has surged noticeably, as the city’s sea routes to Algeria enjoy a lively spell.
It’s not just the airport that welcomes crowds of visitors these days.
According to the port authorities, passenger numbers have jumped by almost 37 percent, reaching a total of 163,618 travellers. Vehicles are rolling in as well, with an increase close to 58 percent and more than 69,000 transported.
Clearly, the ferries are keeping just as busy as the beaches in August!
A good part of this success comes from the arrival of the vessel Cracovia, which joined the route a year ago this month. Port officials say it has been nothing short of a turning point. In its first full year alone, the Cracovia has carried more than 63,000 passengers and nearly 30,000 vehicles, quickly becoming an essential part of the link between Alicante and Algeria.
Maritime traffic in Alicante: Regular routes
There are now three ships regularly connecting Alicante with the ports of Oran and Algiers: the Cracovia, operated by Ocean Ports Shipping, the Venizelos from E N T M V, and the Romantika from Madar Maritime.
All this activity strengthens Alicante’s position as a strategic gateway between Europe and the Maghreb, supported by reliable routes and increasing demand. According to the Port Authority, the steady growth reflects the strong economic, family and cultural ties between Alicante and Algeria, which continue to generate constant movement across the Mediterranean.
The Port Authority says it will keep working to reinforce these connections, improve services and further promote Alicante as one of the most important maritime hubs in the Western Mediterranean. With numbers like these, the Port of Alicante is firmly establishing itself as a key player in North African maritime traffic and in regional economic development, all while supporting sustainable and cooperative connections across the Mediterranean.
