Getting between Alicante city centre and Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport will become quicker this summer after changes to the popular C-6 airport bus service.
From Monday 1 June, the C-6 bus line will increase its service frequency to cope with rising passenger demand during the busy Costa Blanca tourism season.
More daily journeys on Alicante Airport bus route
Public transport operator Vectalia has confirmed it will add an extra bus to the route.
The increase will raise the number of daily journeys from 80 to 92.
Passengers travelling during the daytime will see the biggest improvement. Between 06:00 and 21:00, buses will run every 12 minutes instead of every 14 minutes.
Vectalia will increase the active fleet from five buses to six for most of the day to support the new timetable.
Night services continue 24 hours a day
The company will also strengthen overnight services.
Night buses on the C-6 route will continue running every 30 minutes, while the service will remain available 24 hours a day.
The C-6 remains one of the most important public transport routes on the Costa Blanca. Tourists, airport staff and local residents use the service heavily throughout the year.
Long queues and overcrowding have become common during peak travel periods as passenger numbers at Alicante-Elche Airport continue to grow.
Alicante Airport still waiting for rail connection
The C-6 currently offers one of the few direct public transport links between Alicante city centre and the airport terminal.
Long-planned rail projects, including the Cercanías station and the Torrellano rail variant, have yet to move forward.
Vectalia says the extra services will provide a “more agile, comfortable and efficient” connection during the summer season.
Strike planned by La Alcoyana workers
The service expansion comes during growing tensions involving workers at La Alcoyana, which forms part of the Vectalia group.
Union representatives have announced an indefinite strike starting on 20 June.
