If you find yourself in Alicante with some spare time, or simply need a bit of shopping, the Central Market is a must-visit.
Built in the 20th century with touches of Valencian Modernism, the market was started by architect Francisco Fajardo Guardiola in 1915 and completed by Juan Vidal Ramos in 1922.
Inside, nearly 300 stalls span two levels, offering fresh produce, meats, fish, cheeses, baked goods, and more. From everyday essentials to local specialties, the market has been serving generations of Alicante residents.
The building is rectangular, with a grand staircase leading to the main entrance on Avenida de Alfonso el Sabio and a quieter rear entrance opening onto Plaza 25 de Mayo.
