Hold on to your hats, literally. The Costa Blanca is bracing itself for another blast of strong winds as one storm barely clears and another rolls straight in.

As Storm Marta moves away, Spain’s weather authority State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has confirmed the arrival of Storm Nils, named by Météo-France. The result is several days of blustery conditions and a run of weather warnings across the region.

AEMET Comunitat Valenciana has warned: “Pay close attention today to the wind. It will strengthen throughout the day and could exceed 90 km/h from midday onwards.”

Wind warnings across the Costa Blanca

For Tuesday 10 February, AEMET has activated a yellow wind warning along the northern coast of Alicante Province from 12:00 until midnight.

The alert will remain in force throughout Wednesday and continue into Thursday until 18:00.

In particular, the Marina Alta is expected to see gusts reaching up to 70 km/h, driven mainly by strong westerly winds, while inland areas will feel powerful north-easterlies.

The system will also affect large parts of Valencia Province, where both the northern and southern coastline, as well as the southern interior, are under orange warnings on Tuesday and Wednesday. Here, gusts could climb as high as 90 km/h.

Emergency alerts activated

In response to the forecasts, alerts have been issued:

  • Yellow wind alerts for the southern interior of Castellón Province, plus inland areas and the northern coast of Alicante
  • Orange alerts for coastal and southern inland parts of Valencia province

In short, it’s shaping up to be another noisy, gusty few days along the Costa Blanca and beyond.
