If you regularly travel between the Costa Blanca and Eastern Europe, there is some extra summer flight capacity on the horizon, Alicante to Chișinău.
Alicante-Elche Airport will see additional flights this summer to what has effectively become one of the main gateways into Ukraine.
The Costa Blanca is home to Spain’s largest Ukrainian community, The demand for connections to neighbouring Moldova has remained strong since the outbreak of the war in Ukraine.
A growing Alicante–Chișinău connection
SkyUp Airlines has confirmed it will add an extra weekly flight between Alicante and Chișinău. They will run from mid-June until the end of September.
The airline relocated operations to the Moldovan capital after Ukrainian airspace closed following the Russian invasion.
The route, which is also served by FlyOne, carried more than 37,000 passengers during 2025. According to Aena figures, almost 9,500 travellers have already used the connection so far this year.
Extra summer flights added
SkyUp originally launched the Alicante–Chișinău route earlier this spring with two weekly services.
Due to growing demand, the airline has now added a third weekly frequency on Saturdays.
Flights from Alicante are scheduled to depart at 19:50, arriving in Chișinău shortly after midnight. The return flight leaves Moldova at 15:45 and lands on the Costa Blanca at 18:50.
Why Chișinău matters
Since the war began, Chișinău has become one of the main transit hubs for Ukrainians travelling in and out of the country.
The Moldovan capital offers onward rail and road connections towards cities such as Odesa and Kyiv while civilian flights in Ukraine remain suspended.
Ukraine’s official tourism information channels also continue to identify Chișinău as one of the main international access points into the country.
