Regular public transport users in Alicante have a new option from today, Thursday 1 October, with the launch of monthly passes offering unlimited travel on buses and the TRAM.

The new Móbilis Mensual costs €35, while the Móbilis Mensual Jove for younger passengers costs €29.75.

Both can be used throughout Alicante’s TAM metropolitan transport network, allowing passengers to make as many bus and TRAM journeys as they like during the month.

How much do the new unlimited passes cost?

The standard monthly pass costs €35, while the young person’s version costs €29.75.

Unlike the existing passes based on a fixed number of journeys, the new tickets allow unlimited travel during their period of validity.

The council ultimately plans to phase out the current 30-journey Móbilis Jove pass in favour of the new unlimited monthly option.

For passengers who use public transport frequently, the important difference is therefore not simply the price but the removal of the journey limit.

Other Alicante fares change from today

The unlimited passes arrive alongside several changes to Alicante’s public transport fares.

A single ticket rises by five cents to €1.50.

The subsidised Móbilis Multiviaje 10-journey pass now costs €5.40, an increase of 15 cents, while the 30-journey Móbilis Escolar rises by 25 cents to €8.50.

The existing 30-journey Móbilis Jove remains at €10.60 for the time being.

Children aged up to 14 continue to travel free.

Discounts also remain in place across the Valencian Community, with a 50% reduction for passengers under 31 and a 40% reduction for other users.

Could the young person’s pass get cheaper in 2027?

There could be another significant change from January, although it is not confirmed yet.

Alicante councillor for Mobility Carlos de Juan said the council hopes the new monthly passes will qualify for Spanish government public transport subsidies due to take effect in 2027.

If the planned national discount rules apply, the council expects the unlimited young person’s monthly pass could cost €15 from January.

For now, however, that is an expectation rather than the price passengers will pay today.

From 1 October, the new Móbilis Mensual Jove costs €29.75.

Is an unlimited pass worth it?

That will largely depend on how often you travel.

Someone making occasional bus or TRAM journeys may still find a multi-journey pass more suitable. For commuters and other regular passengers, the €35 monthly ticket offers the certainty of a fixed cost regardless of how many journeys they make.

The introduction also makes Alicante’s ticket system a little more flexible for people who combine buses and the TRAM rather than relying on just one form of public transport.

And unlike a 10 or 30-journey pass, there is no need to count how many trips remain before deciding whether to hop aboard.
