Torrevieja and La Mata are celebrating San Antón, Saint Anthony, the patron saint of animals.
Pet blessings will take place in several parishes across Torrevieja and La Mata on Saturday 17 January and Sunday 18 January.
On Saturday at 11:00, there will be a visit to the Municipal Animal Shelter. Father José Antonio Gea, parish priest of the Church of the Immaculate Conception, will bless the dogs and cats at the shelter.

Later that day, at 18:00, the traditional pet blessing will take place outside the Church of the Immaculate Conception. An organised entry and exit system will be in place. At 19:30, Mass will be held in honour of Saint Anthony.
Also at 18:00 on Saturday, the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish Church will hold its own animal blessing.
In La Mata, the blessing of animals will take place on Sunday 18 January at 13:00, after Mass, outside Our Lady of the Rosary Parish Church.
