Calling all sky buffs! Elda is putting together the official 2026 calendar, and this year it will celebrate the art of astrophotography.
The project aims to showcase the beauty of the night sky, spark interest in astronomy, and highlight the importance of protecting our environment from light pollution.
Here’s where you come in. Residents can help decide which images make it into the calendar through a public vote running until 24 November. You can cast your vote online.
Once the voting is over, the calendars will be ready by the end of the year and can be collected free of charge from the Department of the Environment, while supplies last.
So if you love stars, planets, and the magic of the night sky, this is your chance to help Elda pick the images that will inspire the town all through 2026.
Councillor for the Environment Cristina Rodríguez Armigen said, “This calendar gives us a chance to look up at the sky and appreciate our natural surroundings from a fresh perspective. Astrophotography encourages reflection on the beauty around us and reminds us why protecting the night sky from light pollution is so important.”
She also noted that the partnership with the Elda Astronomy Association shows the Council’s commitment to scientific and environmental outreach, as well as to projects that actively involve citizens in shaping local initiatives.
