Six Costa Blanca towns have earned national recognition from La Vuelta for their commitment to cycling, sustainable mobility and cycle tourism.
Benidorm, Calpe, Castalla, Orihuela, Torrevieja and Villena have all secured
the 2026 Más Bici (“More Cycling”) seal, placing the Costa Blanca among Spain’s leading regions for bike-friendly destinations.
The recognition forms part of La Vuelta es Más initiative, which encourages towns and cities across Spain to make cycling safer, more accessible and a practical way to travel.
Rewarding investment in cycling
La Vuelta awards the Más Bici seal to municipalities that invest in cycling infrastructure while promoting cycling as both everyday transport and a tourism asset.
A panel of cycling and mobility specialists assesses applications across several areas, including infrastructure, public services, education, governance, sport and tourism.
Costa Blanca among Spain’s cycling leaders
Only 18 municipalities across Spain earned the 2026 distinction, with six of them located on the Costa Blanca.
They join Barcelona, Bilbao, Madrid, Valladolid and Zaragoza, which received recognition when the scheme launched last year.
The awards highlight destinations of all sizes that make it easier and safer for residents and visitors to travel by bike.
Benidorm recognised for its cycling network
Benidorm impressed the judges with its long-term investment in cycling, including a network of around 130 kilometres of cycle routes and initiatives that encourage more sustainable travel.
Sports councillor Javier Jordá said the recognition reflects the town’s continued commitment to promoting cycling as part of everyday life while improving facilities for residents and visitors.
A boost for cycle tourism
Torrevieja also earned praise for expanding its cycling infrastructure and encouraging bike use through education, sport and tourism initiatives.
Meanwhile, the Costa Blanca’s mild climate, varied landscapes and growing network of cycling routes continue to attract cyclists from across Spain and the rest of Europe.
The latest awards further strengthen the region’s reputation as one of Spain’s leading destinations for cycle tourism while recognising the ongoing efforts of local councils to make everyday cycling safer and more accessible.
