Two Costa Blanca villas have made it into a ranking of Spain’s ten most-viewed luxury properties this summer.

According to property portal Idealista, the spectacular homes in Jávea and Altea attracting plenty of online window shoppers.

And ‘window shopping’ may be the operative phrase for most of us. The two villas cost €3.8 million and €3.65 million respectively.

Still, looking is free.

€3.8 million clifftop villa in Jávea

The highest-ranking Costa Blanca property sits in Cala Ambolo in Jávea, where it occupies a clifftop position overlooking the Mediterranean.

It was the fifth most-viewed luxury property in Idealista’s Spanish ranking and, at €3.8 million, the most expensive of the entire top ten.

The two-storey villa has 342 square metres of built space, of which 182 square metres is usable, and stands on a 1,493-square-metre plot.

Inside are four bedrooms and four bathrooms, while outside the Mediterranean views provide much of the attraction.

There is also a sauna, barbecue area and infinity pool, because apparently a normal swimming pool simply won’t do when you’re spending €3.8 million.

Cala Ambolo itself lies on one of the most dramatic stretches of Jávea’s coastline, an area of cliffs, coves and sea views that has long attracted buyers looking at the upper end of the Costa Blanca property market.

Altea villa takes eighth place

The second Costa Blanca property in the top ten is in the Sierra de Altea and comes with a slightly lower, although still eye-watering, price tag of €3.65 million.

It ranked eighth among Spain’s most-viewed luxury homes.

This one is considerably larger, with 664 square metres of built space spread across three floors and a 1,570-square-metre plot.

There are five bedrooms and four bathrooms, along with large terraces and, naturally, plenty of Mediterranean views.

The list of extras includes a swimming pool, jacuzzi, gym and barbecue area.

Inside, things become even more extravagant. According to the property listing, the villa also has a library, a separate butler’s kitchen and a selection of artworks.

So that’s the spare room sorted.

The Costa Blanca’s luxury property appeal

It isn’t particularly surprising to find Jávea and Altea appearing on a list like this.

The northern Costa Blanca has developed a substantial luxury property market, particularly in coastal and hillside locations where buyers can combine sea views with privacy and relatively easy access to beaches, restaurants and nearby towns.

Jávea, Altea and Dénia have also previously appeared among the Spanish locations attracting strong interest from foreign buyers searching for luxury homes.

The combination of coastline and mountains gives this part of Alicante province something rather different from the traditional image of high-rise Mediterranean resorts.

And when the budget stretches into several million euros, apparently buyers would also quite like a sauna, gym, jacuzzi and somewhere for the butler to cook.

Who knew?

Spain’s most expensive of the most viewed

What makes the Jávea villa particularly notable is its price.

At €3.8 million, it was the most expensive property among Idealista’s ten most-viewed luxury homes this summer.

The Altea villa came next at €3.65 million, followed by a €3.45 million luxury home in Marbella.

Of course, clicking on a €3.8 million property advert and actually buying the house are two very different activities.

Perhaps that is part of the appeal of these listings. You can spend five minutes wandering virtually around an infinity pool, deciding whether the 1,493-square-metre plot is quite large enough, before returning to the considerably less glamorous question of what you’re having for dinner.

Still, two Costa Blanca properties making Spain’s top ten suggests plenty of people enjoy doing exactly that.
