Orihuela has launched its Christmas tourist routes that invites both locals and visitors to explore the city.

Are you feeling festive and spending time in Orihuela this December? If so, you are in luck. The Christmas tourist routes aim to offer something for everyone through Orihuela’s history and traditions with a seasonal twist.

The fun begins on Friday, 5 December, with two themed routes. The first, called Palaces, focuses on the exteriors of the most impressive palatial buildings in the city. The second, Cultural Legacy, takes you on a wander through the key monuments in the historic centre.

Orihuela’s Christmas tourist routes: Sweet treats

On Sunday, 7 December, the Miguel Hernández House Museum will host a special visit to its temporary exhibition. On the same day, one of the most traditional activities returns. Sweet Steps will lead visitors to the Convent of Trinidad y de las Clarisas, where you can discover and taste the Christmas sweets prepared by the nuns.

The programme carries on at MUDIC, the Museum of Contemporary Art of Orihuela, with a Christmas card workshop open to all ages. There will also be solar observation sessions and a planetarium show.

Another highlight is a visit to the Olive Mill Museum. Here you will learn about the traditional process used to produce olive oil, followed by a tasting of olive oils and freshly baked bread.

The programme ends with Nativity Scenes with Tourist Train, one of the most popular events of the season. It will take place on 24, 26, 27, 29 and 30 December, departing from Plaza de la Soledad. The tour takes you to the most iconic nativity scenes throughout the city and is a lovely way to soak up the Christmas atmosphere.

Reservations will open each week through the Orihuela Tourism website.

All activities have limited spaces and require advance registration.
