If you are heading to the beach, leave the car at home and let Alicante’s summer Beach Bus service take you there.

With summer in full swing, Alicante’s beaches are once again among the busiest spots in the city. Thousands of residents and visitors head to the coast every day to enjoy the sea, but finding parking can be a challenge, especially during July and August.

To make getting to the beach easier, Alicante’s bus network has once again introduced its summer ‘Beach Bus’ service, with routes to all the city’s main beaches and coves.

Some services have also increased their frequency for the summer season, giving passengers more options throughout the day.

What is the Beach Bus?

The Beach Bus isn’t a separate bus route but a way of identifying services that stop close to Alicante’s beaches.

Operated by Vectalia MIA and La Alcoyana, buses serving the coast display a special ‘Beach Bus’ sign on the front, making them easy to spot.

Several routes also operate more frequently during the summer, including Line 27 to Urbanova.

Playa de San Juan

Playa de San Juan is Alicante’s largest and most popular beach, stretching for around six kilometres before joining Muchavista Beach in El Campello.

It offers plenty of facilities, restaurants, sports areas and family-friendly services.

You can reach the beach using Lines 21, 22, 31 and 38, with services from Alicante city centre, El Campello, Sant Joan d’Alacant, Mutxamel and San Vicente del Raspeig.

Cabo de las Huertas

If you prefer rocky coves to sandy beaches, Cabo de las Huertas is a popular choice for swimming, snorkelling and kayaking.

Coves including Cala Cantalar, La Calita and Cala Palmera can be reached on Lines 22 and 28.

La Almadraba and La Albufereta

These neighbouring beaches offer a quieter alternative to San Juan and are popular with families.

They are served by Lines 9, 21, 22 and 28.

Visitors can also enjoy the recently opened Almadraba Park, a new green space with walking paths, children’s play areas and the remains of a Roman villa discovered in the area.

El Postiguet

Located at the foot of Santa Bárbara Castle, El Postiguet is Alicante’s city beach and one of the easiest to reach by public transport.

Lines 2, 5, 12, 21 and 22 all stop close to Puerta del Mar, just a short walk from the beach.

San Gabriel and Urbanova

Line 27 serves both San Gabriel and Urbanova, south of the city centre.

Urbanova offers more than 1.5 kilometres of sandy beach, a seafront promenade and plenty of places to eat and drink, while San Gabriel provides a quieter option closer to the city.
