Benidorm is inviting you to discover the city’s greener side with a guided biodiversity cycle route taking place on Saturday 18 April.
The activity marks the first in a series of environmental initiatives which will run through to June. Ultimately, the aim is to raise awareness about urban biodiversity, wildlife and environmental protection.
Discover Benidorm’s urban nature
The event, titled “Benidorm en ruta”, will begin at 9:30am from the Óscar Esplá Auditorium in Parque de l’Aigüera. From there, participants will cycle through several of the city’s main green spaces.
First, the route will head towards Parque de Foietes. Then, the group will continue to El Moralet, before finishing at Parque de la Séquia Mare. Throughout the journey, participants will discover the natural biodiversity found within Benidorm’s urban parks.
Meanwhile, guides will help attendees identify urban bird species, pollinating insects and native plants. In addition, they will explain how green spaces act as biodiversity refuges. Furthermore, these parks also help improve air quality and reduce urban temperatures, making them essential to city life.
Benidorm bike route: Open to all ages
The activity will last approximately three hours and is suitable for all ages. However, participants must be able to travel by bicycle or use adapted mobility equipment.
This is just the first of several environmental events planned for the coming months. Next, the council will organise a workshop focused on building bird nesting boxes and insect hotels. As a result, these initiatives aim to encourage beneficial wildlife and promote ecological balance in urban parks.
Overall, the programme highlights Benidorm’s commitment to sustainability and environmental education. While the city is famous for its beaches and skyline, this initiative shines a spotlight on its growing network of green spaces and urban wildlife.
Benidorm may be known for sunshine and skyscrapers. However, this spring, it is also inviting residents to explore a quieter, greener side of the city.
