Alicante-Elche Airport is having quite the glow-up. Not only are passenger numbers soaring, but new routes keep popping up.

After Wizz Air announced flights to Bratislava and Milan-Malpensa, it is now Luxair’s turn to join the party.

The Luxembourg airline hasn’t flown into Alicante for almost a decade, its last scheduled service was back in 2018. Since then, Volotea has been the only airline linking Alicante with Luxembourg. But next summer, Luxair is making its grand return.

The airline says Spain is one of its key markets and that bringing back the Alicante route reflects its “intention to strengthen its offering with Iberia.”

Until now, travellers heading to Luxembourg often had to route via Madrid.

The new direct link makes life much easier for holidaymakers and business travellers alike.

Flight Details

Luxair will operate two weekly flights:

  • Wednesdays: Depart Luxembourg 06:00, land in Alicante 08:10. Return at 09:00, back in Luxembourg 11:15.
  • Saturdays: Depart Luxembourg 17:30, land in Alicante 19:35. Return at 20:25, back in Luxembourg 22:40.

Handy for a cheeky midweek getaway or a proper weekend break.

The Alicante service is just one piece of a bigger jigsaw. Luxair has announced nine new routes for next summer, which will bring its network to 101 destinations. The list includes Helsinki, Girona, Edinburgh, Bilbao, and Porto.

Luxair explains that the expansion is all about meeting demand for “sunny and cultural destinations.” (Spain, of course, ticks both boxes.) The plan will also be supported by the gradual arrival of new aircraft in 2026.
