Alicante is already a part of the Guinness World Records club for its enormous nativity figures. And, now, the city has its sights on chasing record number two.
Alicante hopes to add to its Guinness glory with a gastronomic record.
On Saturday 18 October, Avenida de la Constitución will turn into one very long dining table as local bakers try to create a 170-metre coca de mollitas.
Coca de mollitas is Alicante’s pride and joy: a crunchy base topped with savoury crumbs. It’s nothing fancy, just flour and oil. Simple but so tasty
The record attempt comes with a modern twist too. Gluten-free versions will be on offer, so no one has to miss out! From midday, expect proud bakers, hungry locals, and the odd tourist who only popped out for a coffee but now finds themselves part of history.
Guinness Book of Records: Alicante already in the club
Of course, Guinness world records are nothing new in Alicante. Alicante is home to the Guinness World Record-holding Giant Nativity Scene (“El Belén”) known as the “Sagrada Familia,” which is the largest in the world. The nativity scene, a popular Christmas attraction, has held the record since 2020.
Other Guinness world records have been set on the Costa Blanca.
Largest soap bubble blown by hand
The largest soap bubble blown by hand is 0.25 m³ (15,255.94 in), and was achieved by Pierpaolo Laconi (Italy) in San Juan de Alicante on 19 November 2020.
Pierpaolo graduated from school with a degree in accounting, but he soon realized his true passion was for the stage. After working both on stage and backstage, Pierpaolo started to learn how to perform with bubbles and now considers himself a bubble artist.
Longest line of hamburgers
The longest line of hamburgers consisted of 5,000 hamburgers. This was achieved by Carnicas Ortola S.L (Spain), in Crevillente, Alicante, Spain, on 25 September 2016.
The hamburgers were made from with beef patties with cheese and ketchup and measured 475.10 m (1,558 ft 8.6 in).
So, will this colossal coca de mollitas earn a place in Guinness history?
Why not join in the fun on 18 October, watch the dough unfold, and if all goes well, walk away with a crumbly slice of fame.
